2013 Wisconsin State Fair
Jackpot Hereford Steer Show Results

This past August, Kaci Keppen, Fort Atkinson, exhibited the Grand Champion Jackpot Hereford Steer at the 2013 Wisconsin State Fair Junior Beef Show. The steer was bred by Paul and Sylvia Baker / Baker Polled Herefords, Elkhorn, Wisconsin. This honor earned Kaci Keppen a $500 cash prize. This is the second year in a row that the combination of Keppen (exhibitor) and Baker (breeder) have won the Jackpot show. Reserve Champion honors went to Noah Geffert with a steer bred by Tower Hill Farm, Rudolph, Wisconsin.

To be eligible for this class, steers must be born in Wisconsin by a member of the Wisconsin Hereford Association or the Wisconsin Junior Hereford Association, must carry an AHA Steer Certificate and entry fees must be paid by the breeder and exhibitor. The champion steer receives $500, reserve $250 and on down with every exhibitor receiving a cash prize. What better way can exhibitors recover money on a steer project?

Herefords are a breed known for feed efficiency, but most of all their gentle nature, perfect for the younger exhibitors to start out showing. So, if you’re in the process of looking for aster for next year, look for a Hereford! There are breeders all over the great state of Wisconsin hosting plenty of club calf sales this fall with outstanding Hereford show steer prospects.
