After growing up on a dairy farm and raising Registered Simmentals for 30 years, Rob purchased the first Registered Hereford heifer from Lininger Polled Herefords at the 2005 World Beef Expo Hereford Sale. The purchase was more of a fluke than a well thought out plan. Walking through the lineup of sale cattle being auctioned, we came across a Feb 10th heifer that we thought was pretty neat. We decided to hang out and see what happened. As the sale went along we became more interested. When this heifer came into the ring we made sure we paid attention. When the gavel fell we owned our first Hereford female. That next spring we showed LPH Lady Thunder 5431 at the Pioneer Show Down in Platteville and she was Champion Hereford Female. We were forever hooked on Herefords. Since that time we have traveled many miles and put in many hours trying to build a herd and add females that are well known in the breed. We strive to find those deep bellied, bigger boned, great structured, and adequate muscled cattle. We also try to use AI sires that will offer us the same result. Because we don’t have a deep history with Hereford genetics we rely heavily on phenotype and current EPDs. Also as most of you may already know, we ask a lot of questions. A couple of the females we acquired are.

We hope that these females, along with a few others not mentioned will help us succeed in the show ring and provide the genetics other Hereford breeders are looking for.

Our agenda also consists of a pretty rigorous show schedule. Point Creek Herefords participates in approximately 10 shows per year including the National Junior Hereford Exposition. In 2011 our daughter Amanda showed ECR 80P Miss Sue 0225ET.

ECR 80P Miss Sue 0225 ET

  • 2011 American Royal – Class winner
  • 2011 Denver Stock Show – 2nd in class
  • Black River Spring Thaw – Champion Hereford and Supreme Female

  • Valley Beef Show – Champion Hereford Female and Supreme Female
  • NJHE – Class winner
  • 2011 World Beef Expo – Reserve Champion Female Open Show
  • 2011 World Beef Expo – Division Champion

We are very proud of Amanda and her accomplishments with “Miss Sue” and also thank the Fawcett family from South Dakota, who not only bred this great female, but helped us tremendously this past year.

The 2012 show string will consist of a daughters sired by Milsap, About Time, and Shock an Awe. We are looking forward to fun times with the kids, the heifers, and other Hereford families this coming year.

Our farm is very small compared to most, but it still keeps us very busy as my wife and I both work full time off the farm. Rob is the Manager of Customer Service for Wisconsin Public Service, and Chris is employed by the Manitowoc Public School System as an Administrative Assistant. We own 30 acres and rent another 25 close by. We are in “Dairy” country, so the available acres are small 3-10 acre parcels. That fits our program just fine. The majority of the acreage is in pasture or alfalfa/grass hay, but we do plant a small amount of corn for silage to feed to the cows after calving.

We still have many friends in the Simmental breed, but we are having the time of our life with our Hereford cattle. Due to the cattle we have acquired, the breeders we have met across the US, and specifically, the tremendous support and generosity received from the Hereford Families in our great state of Wisconsin.

Point Creek Herefords is in a building phase, but within a few short years we hope to be marketing our genetics. If you have any questions about what we do or how we do it, just pick up the phone and give us a call. Better yet, stop by and sit down for a visit. We can discuss our favorite thing. HEREFORD CATTLE!

Thanks, Rob, Chris, and kids
