National Poll-ette Update
Your National Organization of Poll-Ettes always has a busy schedule at Jr. National Hereford Expos. The NOP organizes and runs the National Queen program, providing the state queens with many opportunities to get to know one another, running queen workshops, and overseeing the girls during the week. The NOP also runs the Illustrated Speech Contest, the PeeWee Speech Contest, and new Extemporaneous Speech Contest. The Creative Arts contest is another one of their activities. All youth are encouraged to make a work of art, focusing on Herefords, with cash awards provided for winning entries. Scholarship programs the NOP offers annually are the Ed Bible and NOP Founders Scholarship awards. Their largest program at this event is the Heifer Scholarship Program. Names are drawn out of the four age divisions and each winner received $1,000 towards the purchase of a heifer. Finally, all the names are thrown into one hat, and the lucky junior whose name is drawn receives a free heifer. Julie Wiechert was the 2009 recipient of this heifer donated by CBY Polled Herefords (Bob & Dolores Call), Cushing, OK. If these five junior members bring these heifers back to the following junior national, they receive an additional $500. The NOP is focused on youth and providing educational and leadership opportunities to our young people. They encourage and welcome your support.
